Hat-Fest 2007

My Aunt gave me a bunch of yarn she had in her stash, among which was a lot of pink. It was such pretty yarn, but no one over the age of 10 was going to be able to wear it without major stares, so I found a nice basic pattern here, and made a few variations on it. There's one with a pom-pon, one with ear-flaps and pom-pons, and one with kitty ears (that Frank was kind enough to model for me)
They're for the daughters of a woman that goes to our church. They were fun to knit, I'm really loving hats!

Life is Good

At a gift shop in Hoboken I see there is a new product line out called "Life is Crap". It shows those not so shining moments in people's lives like going to the dentist, having no toilet paper in the public restroom or getting attacked by a bear. For those of us with a twisted sense of humor, they're hilarious. I tend to think life is really great. I mean it. Even though I may moan about work and some other stupid junk I find real enjoyment in simple things. I'm pretty content right now just sitting here typing to myself. Here's some other things that make me happy (in no particular order)...

* soup, I just love soup, especially pumpkin or squash with a little sour cream in it

* reading with Frank

* snuggling with my Schmoopie

* colored chalk, paper, markers, basically all office/craft supplies make me happy

* that feeling you get when you know you can sleep as long as you like in the morning because you have absolutely no other commitment (this is extremely rare)

This is all for now. ;-)

The Reveal

I was knitting Priscilla's Dream Socks for my mom for Christmas, but I think she may have seen them at my house a couple of times so I finished them up and gave them to her for her birthday. I like this pattern because I've done the baby version a few times and I'm really comfortable with working the heel in short rows. I must have done a lousy job blocking because when they dried (laid out flat on a towel!) they were twice the previous size. Some naughty elves came in at night and played tug-o-war with them! I hope we can fix them.

I AM BEOWULF!

Last weekend we went and saw Beowulf in the 3-D Imax. It was completely awesome. It was really action packed and the story was unusually tragic. However, the entire film was computer generated so occasionally the characters had this weird "Shrek-like" motion to them. But that was trumped by the delightfully evil Angelina Jolie. It would have made for a better story to have John Malkovich be evil as well, but the way he fell subservient to the heroic Beowulf made the tragic Beowulf character seem even more pathetic. It was very good.

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!

We'll probably put up our Christmas tree on Friday. It's a good day for it because I certainly wouldn't be shopping and we're all off from school. We usually take it down the day after Christmas. This may seem Scrooge-related, but not at all! I just like to have my livingroom back.
